My name is Margie Levy and I am a certified birth doula with DONA International. I am also a CLC (certified lactation counselor), which allows my clients the benefit of continuity of care should they need help with breastfeeding after the birth. I have two children, Jake and Sofie, who were born in 1991 and 1993. It was my own experience with childbirth that gave me an understanding of how crucial informed support is for birthing parents. I became passionate about this concept and began assisting my friends in childbirth in 1995. I decided to become a professional doula in 2001. I have now attended over 450 births that have taken place in hospitals, birth centers, and homes.
In addition to the training I received from DONA, I have also trained in Hypnosis, Reiki, Pregnancy Massage, Aromatherapy and many other doula related issues. Continuing education to improve my services is a key priority for me.
From 2003 to 2010 I served on the Board of Directors of DASC (Doulas Association of Southern California) as treasurer and president. After leaving the board, I continued to serve as a mentor to new doulas and hosted local circle meetings in my home famously known as Doula Spa Days. Doulas were welcome to come and decompress, ask questions, or just hang out in the pool/spa for en entire afternoon. Many great ideas were shared!
I could not do this amazing work without the support of my wonderful husband Jon. He is very understanding and has sacrificed a great deal as the husband of a doula!
In my personal life I enjoy spending time with my husband and our children whenever possible now that they are grown and living out of the house. I also love gardening and animals. We have quite the little menagerie of adorable cats and dogs, and a tiny organic egg farm with a handful of beautiful hens. I love bringing fresh eggs to friends, neighbors and most of all, my clients!
